About this event

Overview:

Human Resources Services is pleased to offer The Working Mind training through the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). This training directly supports our shared purpose of promoting and contributing to a healthy and safe community at McMaster University.

The role you play in supporting employees is critical. This program will equip you with tools to create a safe environment for mental health dialogue and strategies to support employees through the mental health continuum.

Schedule:

This course will be held on Zoom on Tuesday, August 22 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, August 23 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. You must be available for both dates.

Participation:

We will be asking you to actively participate in the session and engage in your learning. Engagement includes: Chat activity, Audio / verbal, Poll Responses, Breakout Room Exercises, and Hand Raises / Reactions.

Requirements for the course are regulated by the MHCC. Each participant will need to have access to a computer with a microphone and webcam. For learner engagement and safety, participants are expected to have cameras on during the course. If participants need to step away from their camera momentarily, they are asked to follow protocols (which will be discussed in the course) before they do so to ensure facilitators know they are okay. To qualify for certification, you may not miss more than 30 minutes over the entirety of the course (2 days) and you must be logged into Zoom from a computer and participate from said device at all times.

We encourage you to dedicate the time/space for this course and make the necessary work-life arrangements to do so. This may include:

  • Blocking off calendars to avoid double-bookings.
  • Ensuring your workplace duties are assigned to a colleague.
  • Dedicating a space and / or a desk for learning.

Cost & Cancellation:

This program is funded by Human Resources Services, McMaster University. Those who cancel their registration within seven calendar days or less of the program start date, or who miss more than 30 minutes of the course and cannot be certified, will have an administrative fee ($100) billed to their department. A minimum number of participants is required for the course to take place and may be rescheduled if there is insufficient attendance.

About the Training Course

The Working Mind (TMW) is an evidence-based training, developed to initiate a shift in the way you think, act, and feel about mental health.

It was designed to provide practical knowledge and skills to address mental health and mental illness in the workplace. It is intended for employees as well as managers, supervisors and team leads who manage and support teams.

Three Core Modules offer the same foundational content to both employee and people leader participants. They focus on increasing self-awareness and taking care of your own mental health.

The Module for people leaders offers leadership-specific content and focuses on helping leaders support their teams’ mental health using the Ad Hoc Incident Review (AIR) as well as other available resources.
